Spain Opens a Historic Immigration Regularization: A Real Opportunity for You

Spain is taking a decisive step with one of the most significant immigration regularization processes in its recent history. The Spanish Government has launched an extraordinary immigration regularization that could allow up to 500,000 people to obtain a residence and work permit in the medium term.

This is not just an administrative measure. It responds to a clear social reality: people who are already living in Spain and are part of everyday life, but who, for different reasons, have not been able to regularize their immigration status.

This time, the opportunity is real and should not be missed.

Immigration regularization approved by Royal Decre

The measure will be approved by Royal Decree, a legal instrument that allows procedures to be accelerated, unnecessary blockages to be avoided and the process to be applied in an orderly and effective manner, in line with Spanish and European law.

For you, this means a clearer immigration process, greater legal certainty and less uncertainty, provided you meet the requirements.

Who can benefit from this immigration regularization?

This immigration regularization may apply to you if:

  • you have lived continuously in Spain before 31 December 2025, with a minimum stay of five months, or

  • you applied for international protection before that date, with no minimum length of stay required.

To prove your stay in Spain, you do not need a single specific document, nor do you need to have all of them. Any type of evidence may be used, whether public documents, private documents or a combination of both, such as registration certificates, medical appointments, money transfers, bank movements, subscriptions (for example, a gym membership) or any other document that reasonably helps demonstrate your continuous presence in Spain during the required period.

Please note that it is essential that:

  • you have no criminal record

  • you do not pose a threat to public order

What type of residence and work permit will you receive?

If your application is approved, you will be granted a residence and work permit, which will be:

  • valid throughout the entire territory of Spain

  • valid for any sector of employment

  • granted for an initial period of one year

After this initial permit, you will be able to move into the ordinary immigration pathways under the Spanish Immigration Regulations, allowing you to consolidate your legal status in Spain.

This immigration regularization also extends to your minor children who are already in Spain, in which case the authorization will be granted for a period of five years.

Immigration regularization deadlines

The application period is expected to open in April and remain open until 30 June. The authorities will have up to three months to issue a decision on each application.

However, there is an important advantage for you:
Once your application is formally accepted for processing, you will be able to start working legally in Spain within approximately 15 days, even before the final decision is issued.

A little more patience… but start preparing now

In the coming weeks, the final details of the Royal Decree will be published, including the final immigration requirements, the exact documentation needed and the step-by-step application procedure.

Although it is still necessary to wait for the official regulation, now is the right time to prepare.
